The first US Senior Open was held in 1980 at Winged Foot in New York, and golfers can qualify in any of several ways. Winners of the other three major championships on the Champions Tour during the past ten years are invited, as are the top 25 finishers from the previous US Senior Open. There is also sectional qualifying, making this a true " open" championship. Legends such as Hale Irwin, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino have taken top honors in the past, and the US Senior Open is always worth the effort to attend.
